Morning at the National Monument

This landscape oil painting was done at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area which is part of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument in Northern New Mexico. It is a hidden, unspoiled, wild area some 6 miles west of my home. It is where the Rio Grande River and the Red River meet. In the distance is Ute Mountain.

This oil painting is of a cute little homestead just behind the St Francis Church in Ranchos de Taos. The viewer is looking southwest towards the distant peaks. It is a truly idyllic setting.

Looking towards Embudo Canyon from Pilar campgrounds you can see the afternoon light striking the cliffs. The color intensify as the light goes sinks in the sky.
